The NSW Government’s more than $1 billion Nepean Hospital redevelopment has reached a major milestone, with the first concrete pour for the new seven-storey hospital building.

Seamlessly connecting to the new 14-storey hospital tower, the Stage 2 seven-storey building will deliver contemporary and expanded hospital services for the Penrith and Blue Mountains communities.

The concrete pour forms the foundations of the new building, which will include:

  • An Intensive Care Unit

  • Medical imaging services

  • An in-centre renal dialysis unit

  • More in-patient beds including paediatrics

  • Education and training space

  • A new front of house and reception area

A new Pallative care Unit will also be built on the seventh floor of the new Stage 2 building, as part of the World Class End of Life Care program.

Adrian Timp, Senior Project Director, Health Infrastructure said the ground floor slab is a key construction milestone for the project.

“The first concrete pour onsite is always an exciting moment for our redevelopment team because it sets the foundations for the building’s concrete and steel structure and means we will steadily start to see it rise out of the ground over the coming months,” Adrian said.

"This is the first of over 60 concrete pours to create eight floor slabs for the building, which will include a plant room on the rooftop. Over the coming months, approximately 1400 concrete trucks will transport 12,000 cubic tonnes of concrete onto site.”

As construction continues to ramp up onsite at Nepean Hospital, patients, visitors and staff will experience some noise and vibration from time to time. All works onsite adhere to strict SafeWork NSW requirements, including regular dust, noise and vibration monitoring to ensure they stay within safe limits.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as we progress this important hospital redevelopment and look forward to sharing regular construction progress with you.
