First look at the new Palliative Care Unit at Nepean Hospital
Stage 2 tower crane goes up
SHARE
June 2024
One of the two tower cranes supporting the delivery of the more than $1 billion Nepean Hospital Redevelopment has been installed to progress construction of a second, state-of-the-art hospital building.
Seamlessly connecting to the new 14-storey hospital tower, the seven-storey building will deliver contemporary and expanded hospital services for the Penrith and Blue Mountains communities.
One of the first jobs for the two cranes, which will both stand at approximately 100 meters tall, will be to assist the assembly of the building’s steel and concrete structure.
The cranes, which will do all the heavy lifting, are expected to stay onsite until the structure has reached the top floor.
Vanessa Clements, Nepean Blue Mountains LHD Director of Planning and Redevelopment said the arrival of the cranes shows some exciting progress.
“Now the cranes are being installed, it won’t be long until the building starts to rise from the ground, and we begin to see all the hard work that we have put into the planning, consultation and design of the building come to life!” said Ms Clements.
The core of the crane lies flat on the ground ready to be lifted into place.
As construction continues to ramp up onsite at Nepean Hospital, patients, visitors and staff will experience some noise and vibration from time to time.
All works onsite adhere to strict SafeWork NSW requirements, including regular dust, noise and vibration monitoring to ensure they stay within safe limits. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we progress this important hospital redevelopment and look forward to sharing regular construction progress with you.
The new Stage 2 building includes:
• An Intensive Care Unit
• Medical imaging services
• An in-centre renal dialysis unit
• More in-patient beds including paediatrics
• Education and training space
• A new front of house and reception area
